"God doesn't approve of pests"

Films: Curse of the Talisman (2001)

Alias: None

Type: Mystical

Location: Civilized Area

Height/Weight: That of eagles.

Affiliation: Evil

Summary: Gargoyles are just evil. That's what every horror movie seems to think. Then again, if they were all like Goliath and his posse, there wouldn't be much horror, would there be? So, here's a small one to start the decade off with.

History: Around 1100 A.D., the town of Yorkshire was beset by a swarm of evil gargoyles called upon by a small gargoyle-shaped talisman. Centuries later, the gargoyles faded into myth. That is...until the talisman was found once more. And now, it has involuntarily summoned a gargoyle back into our world. It seeks out the talisman, hoping to bring forth the rest of its brethren to finish what they started...

Notable Kills: Nothing special.

Final Fate: The gargoyle's mission to obtain the talisman and summon the others seems to be a success. But before it can summon more and attack all of mankind, the swarm is petrified and destroyed by blessed rain. The lead gargoyle attacks the foilers in a fit of rage, but is stabbed by a holy sword. The talisman is then put in another's hands, for better or worse.

Powers/Abilities: The talisman acts as a portal between our world and wherever the gargoyles came from.

Weakness: Holy water, blessed weapons. When a gargoyle dies, it turns to stone.

Scariness Factor: 2.5-These bats out of Hell should have found better effects artists to bring them to life instead of that talisman. Indeed, the bad CGI hampers their reputation, and not helping the fact is that you can repel these beasts with a simple prayer and tons of faith. Find better weaknesses, next time!

Trivia: -This film was known in Canada as "Malediction".

-Although set in the U.S., this film shows signs that it is clearly in Australia, right down to some of the accents and the newspaper clearly reading "The Australian".
